| What is Mimosa Arts? Mimosa Arts is the visual arts business of award-winning Nashville photographers Harry and Karan Simpson. Our approach to services is to provide each client with a thoughtful, well planned session dedicated to delivering extraordinary images and unique, beautifully designed products. What type of photography services do you provide? We specialize in portrait and event photography as well as videography services. Where is your studio located? We are located downtown in the heart of the photography district in Nashville's historic Cannery Row. Our address is 521 8th Avenue South, Studio 307, Nashville, Tennessee 37203. What makes Mimosa Arts unique? We like to think that several things make us different, but we'll list just a few... Our 4,000 square foot, third floor loft studio has hundred year old brick walls and creaky wooden floors. Four massive 6' x 8' windows cover the entire east wall, with two 3' x 6' windows on the north facing wall. Two large skylights are located in the main studio area. While you may think that sounds nice, what it provides is exceptional lighting flexibility in every studio set design, which helps to ensure an extraordinary image. The full view of Nashville's downtown skyline isn't too bad, either... We offer several types of session packages as well as single session options. Our products include custom designed albums, giclee canvases and watercolor images. All session proofs are uploaded to a private, password-protected on-line gallery where you can view and order your desired print sizes. Is there tax on photography services? Our accountant tells us yes... and no... Taxes are dependent on the type of session and whether or not a physical product is purchased. Generally speaking, our session packages are taxable as they include product(s), which are also taxable. Applicable city and state taxes are currently charged at 9.25%. We don't necessarily like charging taxes, but we much prefer it to the consequences for not doing so. How long have Harry and Karan been photographers? We both were born with an artist's brain (so we've been told) and Karan found her creative outlet through photography in 2000. Her passion for photography rekindled Harry's, who started shooting film with his mother's old 35mm SLR camera and went digital in 2000. So with all this passion being ignited, do you have kids? Yes, yes we do. Harry shares his three sons, one daughter, three daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, three grandsons and three granddaughters with Karan and Karan shares her two sons, two daughter-in-laws, two grandsons and one granddaughter with Harry. There are also numerous grand dogs and grand cats, too. We also share two canine children, Mickey and Auggie. Family get-togethers are a blast! And noisy! Are you recognized by any professional organizations? We are active members of the Professional Photographers of America and participate in continuing education to ensure that the services and products we offer are of the highest quality and standards. Do you ever donate your services? Yes. If you represent a local non-profit organization and have photography service or fundraising requirements, please contact Karan at karan@mimosaarts.com to discuss our service donation application. Since 2008 Mimosa Arts has provided singer songwriters with free digital images of live performances for use in their non-commercial digital and print galleries. Our First Monday BluebirdTM (FMB) program provides this service to artists at Nashville's famed Bluebird Cafe on the first Monday of each month. Artists performing at many other venues, including 3rd & Lindsley, Mercy Lounge, Rutledge, Maxwell House, Wildhorse Saloon, Douglas Corner, The Basement, Norm's River Roadhouse and Exit/In are extended this free service as schedules allow.
